'Lampoon' editor to speak 4723311 r KEJfUIMUFlI Chris Miller, contributing editor to the National Lampoon, is scheduled to bring tears of laughter to the eyes of UNL students with a speech at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Nebraska Union Small auditorium. Regular readers of the Lampoon will recognize Miller as the author of "Caked Joy Rag," "Stacked Like Me," "Groin Larceny" and 'The Toilet Papers," all of which appeared in past issues of the humor, magazine. In the two years since its inception, the National Lampoon has become the fastest growing magazine in America. Begun because the U.S., "home of chuckles and boffos," has had no humor magazine in the past 50 years, the National Lampoon's circulation is now more than 500,000 and growing about 50,000 a month. Two of the magazine's editors, Henry Beard and Doug Kenney, came to the National Lampoon via the notorious Harvard Lampoon parodies of Time, Life and Playboy which they created during their years at Harvard in the 1960s. In addition to publishing the raucous monthly magazine, the razor-witted stafff of the National Lampoon has turned out two anthologies. One is a collection of political articles and the other, The Best of National Lampoon 1, is a collection of howlarious articles from the first 16 issues of the magazine. A third rib-tickling collection, The Breast of National Lampoon, is now on sale. Staff members? also have branched out from the rib-tickling of the printed page into oiher laff-a-minute endeavors. Their first record album, National Lampoon's Radio Dinner, has been acclaimed by giggling critics as one of the best rock humor records around. Lemmings, Managing Editor Tony Hendra's guffaw-ridden musical spoof of the rock scene recently opened in New York and has been playing to howling sell-out crowds. . J LJ .
