Visitation hours curb dormitory violations by Ruth UJrich At 12:30 each night the stairwell doors are locked in Schramm Hall. Students can go downstairs at any time, said Residence Director Jane Lyons, but cannot enter a floor from the stairwell. The purpose of the locked doors is to decrease co-ed visitation violations. Most UNL dormitories, however, are having fewer problems than before. "We haven't had a single violation all year," according to Robert Brandt, residence director at Burr-Fedde Hall on East Campus. Burr-Fedde has the same policy as city campus dormitories but Brandt said he believes it is successful because of "the responsibility of the students themselves." Love Memorial Hall, also on East Campus, has had no problem with violations. The girls can have open house if they want it, said Advisor Suzanne McCrae. There are no set hours, it is "just sort of an agreement," she said. Thomas Moat, Selleck Quadrangle residence director, said there are not as many violations as people are led to believe. He said he believes Selleck's friendliness has resulted in a low number of violations. "People pressure has helped us," he said. Since most of the students know one another, a violator would be quickly recognized, Moat said. Pound Hall Residence Director Marie Hansen said, "I don't expect there to be any violations." There have been a few, but she said she has made it clear to violators that she doesn't expect it to happen again. "I think we're doing a good job in administering the program," according to William Schnackel, Harper residence director. He said Harper Hall is using about 90 per cent of its possible visitation hours, while it was using only about 12 per cent last year. Other residence directors reported no special action toward cutting violations. Most agreed that there has been a marked decrease since the' present policy of more hours and sponsorship by floor members went into effect last year, OOQS y j I ji.il j .1 jrx a: - & ffl x h $ 'if' t ,;v:-: ' IWl. llMll.V-rtLlIIWljf : JIMI HENDRIX PAT HARTLEY Color by DE LUXE From TRANSVUE PICTURES CORP.
