The year's crops are harvested and farmers begin speculating the value of their stored grains. Animals with thick coats of winter hair huddle close to buildings to escape the wintery blasts and munch the dry stems of alfalfa hay. A young calf experiencing winter for the first time nestles close to its mother's side seeking her warmth. Antique farm machinery sits idle in the snow reflecting an age long past. The ice coated steel which once provided a livelihood now sits abandoned but unaffected by one more Nebraska winter.
