CSL examines
charter, picks
Pub Board
Council on Student Life (CSL) student
member Mike Berns presented suggested
CSL charter changes Thursday night for the
council's annual review.
One major addition is the inclusion of
ASUN committee recommendations on its
relation to CSL.
The recommendations include having a
student CSL member appearing before
ASUN once a month summarizing recent
CSL actions, having monthly meetings
between student CSL and ASUN executive
com,mittee members and an exchange of
minutes.
ASUN will appoint all student committee
members.
Other charter discussion questioned
whether any CSL members should have the
right to recognize through the chairman, a
non-CSL member to speak any time during
an open or regular meeting.
One member suggested a time limit; one
suggested outside presentations should be
limited to the first 30 minutes of CSL
meetings designated for this.
CSL quickly appointed the three ASUN
nominees to the Publications Board. The
students are Karen Richardson, Kelly Baker
and Diana Bloss. The board still needs two
more students for completion.
The council also approved two students
for the Housing Committee, Cindy Shalla
from Panhellenic and Steve Keist,
representing IFC.

named queen
finalists
Ten UNL women have been named finalists for 1972
homecoming queen. The queen will be selected by a student
body vote Oct. 25 and she will reign over homecoming
festivities Oct. 28 when the Cornhuskers meet Oklahoma State
at Memorial Stadium.
Finalists are Barbara Allen, Cindy Heider, Anita F. Hughes,
Jackie Johnson, Laurie Mueller, Janice Shook, Cathy Joyce
Smith, Gale Warren, Connie Weimer and Paula Wood.
Perk a perfect pot
Coffee. It isn't packed with nutrients, and many people
don't like it. But for those who do, coffee is a quick, easy
refreshment during long study periods or when friends stop
by.
Making coffee is a science. Whether you use a percolator,
hot pot or popcorn popper to warm your water, make sure the
appliance is clean. Coffee forms an oil that sticks to the pot's
sides, making the next batch bitter.
Use cold tap water. Water contains gases and minerals
which add flavor. Hot water has been sitting in a tank all day
and has lost most of the gases.
Your coffee's flavor can be determined by your own taste
and the brand you buy. If you live in the dormitory, you will
probably buy instant or freeze-dried coffee. Many people
think freeze-dried coffee has better flavor and aroma, but it's
twice as expensive as instant.
Freeze-dried and instant coffee can be made in two ways.
You can either add one teaspoon coffee to three-fourths cup
hot water or add the coffee to cold water and heat. Never boil
coffee. When the water is too hot, it extracts a chemical which
makes coffee bitter.
If you are lucky enough to own a percolator, buy a regular
grind coffee and follow directions on the pack. Usually the
manufacturer recommends two tablespoons of coffee to
three-fourths cup water, But this makes a very potent cup of
coffee. You may want to use only one or one and a half
tablespoons. Perculator coffee is finished when there is no
foam in the glass top.
To prevent loss of flavor or aroma, store unused coffee
grounds in a metal or glass container with a tight-fitting lid and
keep it in a cool place.
