"In previous years we traveled we'd pile into a truck stop to eat," Alexander said. "We used both rest rooms because x ... u.. mere were iu many ui us, uui jtuw.v--.? don't know what we'll do. Before, when Diane Tangermann (NU's award-winning baton twirler) was the only girl who traveled with us, she just got in line and waited her turn like everybody else." "Initially, letting the girls join took the spirit out of the band," said another member. "But everyone's recovered by now. The girls have taken the kidding and jokes in stride." Usually the entire band makes one road trip per season, and one bus load is taken to each of the other out of town games. In addition to the single bus, members drive their own cars to the away games. They pay their own expenses, but get into the game free. A nine-man pep band went to UCLA this season. Their transportation was paid for by the Athletic Department, but they were fed and housed by Nebraska alumni. Many remember trips to bowl games. Alexander has gone to the Sugar, Sun and Orange Bowls. "I preferred the Sun Bowl to any of the others," he said. "The people in El Paso seemed real glad to see us, but in New Orleans and Miami they didn't care. And every year it seems like the ir is ,10?"". t s'l .'. i 1 tt-
