MUN organizers
consider keynoters
Former Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren and political
analyst Claire Booth Luce are among a number of people being
considered as keynote speakers for this year's Model United
Nations (MUN) program, according to Ed Bowe of the
Nebraska Union Program Office.
MUN will convene Feb. 1 next year. Pat Olsen, who is in
charge of the program, said MUN is planning to expand to 500
student delegates representing 100 countries.
Olsen said that this year an effort will be made to bring
more off-campus students into the MUN.
In the past, mainly UNL living units have fielded
delegations.
In addition to the UNL groups at MUN, delegations are
expected from Witchita State University, Nebraska Wesleyan
University, Doane College, Creighton University and possibly
other midwest schools.
Olsen said the University's MUN is considered one of the
better ones, and is possibly the second largest student-run
MUN in the country.
The issues to be debated this year include international
terrorism, world ecology, the Middle East, arms limitation,
human rights and population control, Olsen said.
He urged anyone interested in serving on the MUN planning
committee to apply at the Union Program Office.
