Student
Affairs
offers
consumer
advice
In an effort to help
students, the Office of Student
Affairs is advising them about
where to get information on
business deals they are
considering.
"We are now open in a
limited way," according to
Ron Gierhan, student affairs
coordinator for the program.
"We have collected
information and can advise a
student or tell him where to go
to get help.
"We are not trying to tell
students whether or not they
should buy or invest," he
continued. "We are just
encouraging students to check
prices and we can give them
additional information."
Gierhan said a proposal was
made last spring to provide
students with a place where
they can get information
before they enter business
deals or sign contracts.
Since the age of majority
dropped to 19, it is especially
important that students
understand what they are
buying before signing
contracts, he said.
Meanwhile, Gierhan said his
office is not trying to duplicate
the Better Business Bureau, but
is trying to help protect the
student consumer.
Gierhan said the presence of
one firm involved in legal but
misleading sales operations on
campus last spring triggered
formation of the consumer
information center.
