many evils," she said. 'The option should be available to
women."
Women's liberation? Opinions differed.
'The no-bra bit is a bunch of bunk," Peterson said. She
added, however, that "the employment aspect of the women's
liberation movement is good."
Egger agreed. 'The women's liberation movement is blown
up but I do agree with the employment demands," she said.
"I approve of it but many women only want to go
half-way," Egger said.
When questioned, Stehlik chuckled and said: "I guess I'm
indifferent to women's liberation because it really hasn't
touched my life."
A distinction should be made. between "equality" and
"sameness" in the women's movement, Raymond said.
"Women want to be equal rather than the same as men,"
she said. "A woman should be treated as a person rather than a
sex item."
Most of the freshmen said religion plays an important role
in their lives.
"Religion is great but you don't need the church to have
it," Rielmnitz said. "I like the direction that youth is taking
although I don't think they perceive God in the same way as I
do."
His ancestors immigrated to the United States from
Germany in 1930 and he said they established a
religious-oriented colony in South Dakota.
"All my uncles are missionaries and pastors-it's the path to
follow for them but not for me," he said.
Feay said that religion is the "single, most dominating
factor in my life. It determines the way that I act and way I
think."
"Religion is important. It's something to fail back on and
give you the desire to go on,'" Peterson said. "It gives me an
identity a place."
Uncertainty clouds Raymond's religious convictions.
"Religion is constantly changing," she said. "I can't say
what my religion is. God is man-made and each culture
manifests God in a different way."
'There is wisdom in God and there is wisdom in Thoreau,"
she continued. "Who is to decide what the word of God really
is?"
