Bill Myles will replace Bill Thornton, who resigned recently to become backf ield coach for the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League. Myles, a graduate of Drake University who holds a masters degree, has coached 10 seasons in Kansas City. "Bill has a great coaching record and he's a fine man," Husker Football Coach Bob Devaney said. "We're happy to find a coach of his ability and record to follow Bill Thornton." Devaney said Myles will assist Jim Ross with the 1972 freshman team. Jim WakJen, who assisted Ross with the freshman program last season, will advance to the varsity to coach the defensive ends, the assignment Thornton had in 1971 . i (hi Com Cobs fund tennis scholarship Corn Cobs, UNL men's spirit organization, has established a memorial scholarship in honor of Bob Duffek, a 22-year-old UNL tennis player who died last month after a two-year battle against cancer. Gary Kuklin, Corn Cobs president, said the annual $150 memorial scholarship will go to a varsity tennis player. "We normally give a scholarship to a minor sport," Kuklin said. "Bob's death was tragic and since he was an outstanding tennis player we thought we would honor him." Duffek graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School where he lettered in tennis before going on to earn two letters at UNL. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and served as a tennis instructor at the Lincoln Country Club. A $25 deposit for the Recreation and. R & I is sponsoring a wrestling tournament for all UNL male students. Bob Devaney will be assisted by his Nebraska coaching staff in preparing the College All-Stars for their football game with the National Football League champion Dallas Cowboys July 28 at Chicago's Soldier Field. It will be the first time the collegians have been handled by a collegiate coaching staff since 1954 when the late Jim Tatum and his Maryland aides directed the collegians against the Detroit Lions, who won 31-6. Nebraska center Chuck Jura is a candidate to participate in the Pizza Hut All-Star Classic April 15 in Las Vegas. Players are picked by ballot of fans and the deadline for voting is March 25.
