Braeman challenges Thone
for congressional seat
Kathy Braeman announced Wednesday that she is
committed to run for the Republican nomination for the
House of Representatives from the First District.
Braeman, wife of UNL history teacher John Braeman,
Charged that incumbent Charles Thone has a "zero per cent
record on the issues that the women of this district (it includes
Lincoln) feel are vital for the future of the nation and the
state."
"Thone failed to vote for an Equal Rights Amendment, he
voted against a child care bill which he co-sponsored and he
voted against strengthening the job discrimination provisions
of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and to
end. sex discrimination in higher education," Braeman said.
Braeman has a BA. from Northwestern University and an
MJS.A. from the University of Kansas.

So they think the Stuart should be remodeled . . . Then,
go ahead and do ft! I
Frst, Chisel off the stone passageways from the sides. Cover te
stone detail end the marble, too. Don't forget those elegant 2
ton, 16 chandeliers. Change the ceilings in the lobby, and the
carpet too. Seal off e stags with a concrete well. Close off the
tamper balcony seating and shield that fantastic ceiling and
proscenium arch, front view. Keep awry the symphonies, the
Broadway productions. Ask the elementary school children to
watch The Nutcracker Suit" somewhere else. When this is done,
cell it "The Stuart"?
No doubt they haws economic reasons for this and certainly sir
conditioning costs have dosed marginal businesses in the post. But.
does all this make economic sense? Can Lincoln's Central Business
District afford to lost a cultural center which would cost $2.5
amnion so duplicate?
Does 'make social tense when Lincoln's citizens cat ft "our"
theatre and identify with it as they do? Maybe these men hevi
never enjoyed the movies, the purrs, the style shows, the
symphonan. Maybe ... but how can they ignore those who have?
We don't think they can.
