R & I No. 3
Dear editor:
Having just returned from the Big Eight Conference on
Recreation and Intramurals, we would like to enlighten UNL
students about the state of affairs in this area of several of the
other Big Eight campuses.
Nebraska, in recreation and intramurals, is third in the Big
Eight. Our programming and personnel are far superior to any
of the other institutions, but Colorado and Oklahoma State
share a narrow lead because of their new multipurpose
facilities.
At Oklahoma State and Colorado, the students voted
overwhelmingly to use student fees to fund new multipurpose
facilities to be used only for physical education and recreation.
UNL should consider this.
We hope to have full access to the coliseum for recreational
use after the completion of the new fieldhouse. The coliseum,
however, is very impractical. Much of the space is wasted in
seating, women cannot use the handball courts, and there are
no shower and dressing facilities for women. What are we
really getting? As far as general recreation, very little.

Trivia?
Dear editor:
I would like to express my disagreement with Margaret
. Mead, who terms present student concerns as "trivia". She
speaks of long-range goals of changing the course of current
events in order to avoid an uninhabitable environment in 50
years, and fails to recognize the importance of changing the
immediate environment. What are we trying to save if we
aren't happy in the first place?

Love's constant disappointment
Dear editor :
Thank you very much for thinking enough of the jazz band
to send one of the Daily Nebraskan staff members to review
our annual concert. Would you please make sure that next
time the Daily Nebraskan sends someone, that it is someone
who is more interested in the music than the trite little details
that Larry Kubert, the Daily Nebraskan entertainment editor,
seems to be in love with?
Kubert's column is one of the really consistent
disappointments in your paper.

Don't fence me out
Dear editor:
On February 21, 1972, at least one cancellation of class
resulted directly from the activities of the Nebraska GOP
Committee. Fencing 37M, 8:30 a.m. was not held.
University officals rented the coliseum for that evening so
that the Reagan-Curtis dinner could be conducted. This
process interfered with the normal conduct of University
business.
This was in open violation of the regent's 1969 Tolicy
statement on campus disorders."
The GOP as well as any other group which commits similar
offenses should be prohibited from further use of campus
facilities. ASUN and the regents should consider this course of
action and move accordingly .
Open door policy
Eric L. Matteson
Dear editor:
Now that the regents are considering that horrible visitation
policy which has been-proposed, maybe it is time that they
became realistic and discover they have not been consistent.
How the Regents can require dorm room doors to be open
but fail to require a male teacher to leave his office door open
when a coed comes to see him is scandalous.
The Regents should quickly legislate on this threat before
the parents of these coeds find out about this ghastly
occurence.
