A voluntary faculty drive to raise funds for American
Indian students at UNL had netted about $1,500 by Thursday,
according to Herb Potter, secretary of the University of
Nebraska Foundation.
The foundation is handling donations through its Indian
Culture Fund. Supporters of the drive hope to raise $3,000 to
aid seven new Indian students enrolled at UNL second
semester.
According to a solicitation letter sent last week to more
than 1,000 UNL faculty members, the new students were
encouraged to enroll at the University this semester, only to
find no assistance available through the Financial Aids Office.
The letter, signed by five UNL professors, noted that last
semester 17 UNL Indian students acheived a 2.3 grade-point
average, compared to a 1.1 average 22 Indians marked last
year.
Potter reported that the $1,500 collected represented 50
responses. Donations continue to come in dairy, he said.
Future shock -
Pre-registration for the 1972 fall semester will be March
13-24 according to Richard Young, assistant to the director of
registration and records.
Schedules and packets will be available March 10 in all
residence halls, the north lobby of the Nebraska Union, 208
Administration and 207 Agriculture Hall.
Young reminded students to pay special attention to the
information on page two and the early registration
information on page four of the class schedule.
