doily nebrastan NisserTs late heroics by Gary Seacrest Nebraska performed "Mission Impossible" Tuesday night before a capacity crowd at the Coliseum as they overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half to edge Kansas State 61-60. Al Nissen's jump shot from the top of the key with 13 seconds left provided the winning margin. Nebraska's win, coupled with Missouri's 64-60 victory over Kansas at Columbia Tuesday night, pushed the Huskers back into first place in the Big Eight Conference with a 5-1 record. Nebraska, playing a lackluster first half and early second half, trailed the Wildcats by 12 points, 51-39 with 10:45 left in the game. However, NU center Chuck Jura, who lead all scorers with 29 points, hit on a three-point play 13 seconds later to cut the Freshmen round bailers win too Inspite of 26 turnovers in the second half, the Nebraska Freshman basketball team managed to hold back Kansas State Tuesday night. 72-62. From then on it was all Nebraska as the Huskers, led by reserve Lee Harris, effectively employed a full-court press that produced numerous Kansas turnovers. NU Coach Joe Cipriano credited Harris for sparking the Husker's second half rally. "Lee Harris got our defense going and he gave us the momentum we needed to win," Cipriano said. The Nebraska pressure defense had whittled the Kansas State lead down to three when Wildcat David Hall traveled with 2:24 to go. Jura Came back with a basket 24 seconds later to cut the margin to one. After Kansas State regained a three-point lead with two free throws by Lon Kruger, Nebraska again went with Jura. Kansas State led 36-30 at half-time as Nebraska shot only 37 per cent from the field. The Huskers recovered somewhat in the second half and finished the game with a 43 per cent field goal average. Cipriano credited the Huskers' foul shooting, 13 of 17, for "saving the game." Tagge was the 1 1th player chosen in the draft and the first quarterback taken. Kinney, who holds the Nebraska career records for rushing and touchdowns, was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs. The New York Giants picked Jacobson, who earned numerous Ail-American honors this past season. The three NU seniors are the first Huskers to be picked in the first round since Bob Brown in 1964.
