Rozman continues legal action Stephen L. Rozman. the former UNL assistant political science professor who has already lost his job and a court case against the University, announced late last week he's not through yet. Rozman's attorney, Patrick Healey of Lincoln, filed a motion requesting a new trial in U.S. District Court. Rozman had earlier announced his intention of appealing the court's decision upholding the NU Board of Regents' refusal to rehire him for this academic year. Rozman's appeal will be heard by the Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis if the retrial motion is turned down. Healey alleged the decision of U.S. District Court Judge Warren K. Urbom of Lincoln was contrary to the law and Fees . . . HE SAID THE reason for the excess is to insure the University's ability to pay the bond, and hopefully at an v earlier than expected date. Students are now charged, in addition to the $9.50 for bond indenture for the Nebraska Union, $2.50 per student per semester for what is listed as "Building and Equipment Fund-Additional Student Union Facilities." Union Director Al Bennet said all that money is currently being set aside for the construction of a new East Campus Union. When asked if he believed the Board of Regents intended to give him the whole $10 million dollars generated by the $9.50 student fees in the bond's 30 years he said he did and would continue to until it is indicated to him otherwise. 4,IF WE ASKED the Regents right now to build a $2 million addition, we would have to seek additional student fees to do that," he said. He said, despite his belief the $10 million will come back to the Union, "it may be necessary to raise the $2.50 fees designated (for Union expansion) to $4.50." Bennet said, to his knowledge, the money generated by student fees designated for the Union, is legally bound to return to the facility. BAKER SAID Bennet's and Yost's conflicting statements indicate "somebody is misinterpreting the facts." "The thing that bothers me is that the money is not ear-marked" for the facility students are led to believe it is for, Baker said. He added, "It is up to the Regents to make it known how the system works works so there's no question in anybody's mind." evidence in the trial. Healey alleged the court erred in finding the Regents' resolution terminating his employment was supported by substantive evidence and there was no denial of the constitutional right of due " process. - The Regents voted last February not to renew Rozman's contract after citing his participation in anti-war activities on the Lincoln campus in May, 1 970. Urbom said Rozman "passed beyond the perimeters of protected freedom of expression, assembly and petitibn and. , .the nonrenewal of his contract was permissible by the University." Rozman appeared on the UNL campus last week to launch a fund-raising drive to help finance his appeal. He said the case has cost about $3,000 to this date. 1'S0NY TBINITRON 7 COLOR tlLLU ji ; .
