All the way to Norman?
The excitement of the
Nebraska-Oklahoma game is especially
apparent when talking to NU cheerleaders
who will leave for Norman, Okla.,
Wednesday morning.
"The pressure and tenseness in the air is
amazing," Lynne Smith said. "These crazy
Nebraska people," she said laughing, "have
made this clash big for a long time."
"Frankly, I can't wait until it is over."
There are so many bets, so much
conversation and advertising, Smith said.
SHE SAID THE cheerleaders seldon try
any new routines at televised games. "It's
just too hard to bring in new routines when
the people don't know them, especially at
away games," she said.
"We try to get things done a little more
precisely when we're on television but
otherwise we don't do anything
differently," Linda Jones said.
IT IS HARD to cheer at away games
because the cheerleaders don't know where
the Nebraska fans will be seated or where
the band will be, according to Jones.
"It's really hard because sometimes they
will put the band on one end of the field
away from the Nebraska fans. Sometimes
we can't even hear the music."
Phyllis Burghardt, a former Oklahoman,
expect trouble with her relatives since she
will be staying in Oklahoma for
Thanksgiving.
"WE ALWAYS make bets and
everything," she said. "Two years ago we
lost and my uncle called my dad collect" to
joke about it, Burghardt said.
Nancy Cahow said she was scared about
this particular game.
"I still think we'll win, but everybody
says that" She paused, laughed, and added
"except Oklahoma."
ANNETTE HUDSON said she hopes lots
of people attend the special rally Tuesday
evening which includes a march to the
Capitol.
"I have a lot of confidence in our team
and I think we'll win," Jeanine Station
said. "It is so much fun going to away
games. It makes me feel good to see so
much red in the stands."
