New Administration Building
tries objective location
A new University of
Nebraska administration
building to be contructed near
East Campus is designed, by its
very location, to increase the
objectivity of administrators,
according to Gene Budig,
assistant vice-chancellor.
Both University's central
staff and a management firm
have recommended the move,
he said. The administrator said
UNO has expressed the desire
that administrators make
themselves more impartial to
any individual campus by
extracting themselves from
City Campus.
The new pre-cast concrete
and glass structure will be built
on the south side of Holdrege
street near C. Y. Thompson
Library. The location will still
make it convenient for
administrators to travel to both
the Lincoln campuses, Budig
said.
The City-County Planning
Commission was asked by the
University to okay
construction plans even though
the University doesn't fall
under their authority, he said.
The move was designed to
cultivate good relations with
the city, said the administrator.
The commission approved
the building on Nov. 1 ' but
asked the University to delete
an exit and entrance from Starr
street on the plans, at least on
a temporary basis, he said.
Budig said the University
Foundation, which solicits
funds and support for the
University will also be housed
in the building.
The building will be 140
feet long by 64 wide and stand
137 feet from the curb.
According to Budig, the
building is to be completed by
Aug. 1, 1972 and will cost less
than $750,000.

semester finished after the

to come back from the

There is no noticeable
difference in the dropout rates
between men and women, or
freshmen and seniors,
according to Fowles.
"Before, when the semester
finished after the Christmas
break, many students just
wouldn't bother to come back
from the vacation," Fowles
said. "But despite changes like
that, things seem to continue
pretty much the same from
one semester to the next."
