Coed takes discrimination
by H.J. Cummins
Part-time employment for
students is always hard to find,
but a UNL coed said she
believes it's hardest for women
and is currently involved in
two sex discrimination cases to
change the status quo.
One complaint against the
Hotel Lincoln will be heard in
an open hearing December 13.
Celeste Wiseblood said.
THE SECOND charge was
heard in a private hearing

prohibits her from naming the

Transcendental
Meditation, as explained by
instructor Locke, "is a simple,
natural technique, involving no
special skills, no change in diet,
dress, moral codes, religion or
philosophical beliefs. It is
practiced a few minutes
morning and evening, and as a
result, allows the entire
personality as a whole to
unfold to its full potential.

happiness increase right from
the beginning of the program,
and through regular meditation

available."
Locke stated that during
meditation "the body gains a
deep state of rest while
simultaneously the mind
expands in awareness,
remaining alert."
The deep rest gained
during meditation is unique
and of great benefit to the
entire system because it allows
deep rooted stresses that have
been inhibiting the normal
functioning of the body to be
naturally dissolved.
"TM INVOLVES turning
inside, and quite naturally, the
mind transcends, or
experiences, beyond the finest
level of thinking and directly
experiences the source of
thinking, a reservoir of
unlimited energy creativity and
intelligence," said Locke.
"TM involves no
concentration, contemplation,
control or effort," said Locke.
It is a very simple automatic
and spontaneous technique of
direct experience rather than
some intellectual analysis or
manipulation.
According to Locke,
"More stability in life, more
love and more harmony grow
automatically as a result of
regular meditation."

senior said, this applies to all
businesses operating in
Nebraska except the federal
government, private clubs,
Indian tribes and several other
special cases.
The business must also
employ at least 25 persons
daily, she added.
A private hearing on her
charges against the Hotel
Lincoln was held October 19,
Wiseblood said, but "they did
not meet my demands."
This hearing followed her
initial charges, an investigation
by the Equal Opportunity
Commission, and an opinion
after the Commission studied
the case that she had a
"reasonable complaint," she
said.
AFTER THE Hotel Lincoln
failed to comply with all her
demands, the Commission
again decided in her favor and
granted her a public hearing.
Wiseblood said she believes
a final decision in her favor is
important because, if she
succeeds, the hotel's hiring and
firing policies will be checked
by the Commission for the
following 18 months.
"That means if a black
person or a woman is refused
employment there, they'll have
to have a very good reason
why," she said.
WISEBLOOD, in her
complaint, is asking for 1)
compensation for lost wages
from the time she applied at
the hotel until she found a job
(about three weeks); 2) and 3)
