Lila Olshatz, an employe of
Urban Action Assn. in Omaha,
said if every campus in the
state supports the program,
about $180,000 could be
raised to pay secretaries,
lawyers, engineers and other
professional specialists.
Those interested in the
program Tuesday night
included not only students and
faculty but members of the
Lincoln community.
It was hoped coordinating,
publicity and petition
committees could be formed in
the near future on the Lincoln
campus.
"You can't sell this concept
to anyone unless you
understand it yourself," Kieff
said. He said a large publicity
campaign is necessary to
educate students, faculty,
administrators and legislators
about the value of such a
public interest research group.
The NU Board of Regents
must be urged to raise student
fees if the two campuses are to
participate. Before that would
be done, Kieff felt an intense
drive must be made by
everyone to show the Regents
there is a need and a desire for
the program.

Omaha will be in Lincoln again
Monday for a meeting at 7:30
p.m. in the Nebraska Onion.

Nearly 50 people heard
representatives of the Nebraska
Public Interest Research Group
(PIRG) urge them Tuesday
night to begin organizing a
local group.
Brent English spoke on the
UNL campus last week about
the feasability of starting local
and state-wide organizations -patterned
after the Ralph
Nader Center in Washington,
D.C.
The limited UNL response
to English's address brought a
return visit from a group of
Omaha people to explain the
program.
Nelson Kieff, a UNO
student, said the national
Nader organization will use its
name to get local organizations
started but after they are
established they will be fully
independent.
"Their only interest is that
they see a process which can
work," Kieff said.
As English explained the
program, local organizations
would be organized on each
college campus in Nebraska.
They would send
representatives to a state-wide
organization which would hire
a full-time staff to research
areas of concern.
According to information
printed by the Omaha
organizers the purpose of the
Nebraska group would be to
provide a forum for the
discussion and development of
public issues.
It would further initiate and
coordinate research into
designated problems with the
idea of developing' and
evaluating strategies of
problem solving.
Funds for a full-time stalf
of 10-15 people would be
raised by a student fee of
$1.50 per semester. English
