Minnesota court upholds Baker - McConnel denial MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. -The Minnesota Supreme Court has upheld the lower court denial of a marriage license to University of Minnesota Student Association Pres. Jack Baker and Mike McConnel, a professional librarian. . Baker and McConnel visited UNL during the recent Time-Out Conference on Human Sexuality to talk about same-sex marriages. Baker said the ruling was a "slap in the face to the gay community." He said he would appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. The court case stemmed from the refusal by the county court clerk in Minneapolis to issue the pair a marriage license in May, 1970. "The institution of marriage as a union of man and woman, uniquely invo !ving the procreation ami rearing of children within a family, is old as the Book of Genesis," the Minnesota Supreme Court said. The decision made no mention of the pair's Sept. 3 wedding in Minneapolis. Baker and McConnel obtained a license in a town outside Minneapolis in August and were married by a Methodist minister. cocccb p.m. Nebraska Union-Rap with Dean Meyerson. p.m. Nebraska Union-NFU "Weed Eating." :30 p.m. Nebraska Union-Builders tours. :30 p.m. Nebraska Union-Hyde Park. :30 p.m. Nebra ska Union-Union Board, p.m. Nebraska Union-Nebr.
