Thone will suggest part-time Peace Corp
Nebraska's First District
Congressman, Charles Thone,
told Nebraska ns in his weekly
newsletter that he will
introduce a resolution in
Congress that would make
every military unit a "part-time
Peace Corps team."
The resolution will direct
the Joint Chiefs of Staff to
encourage units and individuals
in the armed services to devote

time to charitable and civic
works.
"Whether stationed in Asia,
Europe, or in the United
States, service units can find
others nearby who need their
help. Although a submarine
crew on patrol at sea cannot
remain , near those they have
chosen to help, they can make
the long hours underwater go
faster by working on craft
projects that will be of vital
help to those in the group that
the crew has adopted," Thone
said.
Thone also sees the program
as a method of improving
relations between the military
bases and the convrunities
they are located in, whether
foreign or domestic.
"To insure that this
program is not just the subject
of a memo that would soon be
forgotten, my resolution
directs that each of the
branches of the armed
services-Army, Air Force,
Navy, Marine Corps, Coast
Guard-set up annual
service-wide competitions to
honor the units and the
individuals who do the most
outstanding work toward
serving others," Thone said.
"To recruit armed services
personnel composed entirely of
volunteers, we need to
convince young people that
not onlv protect
our nation from would-be
aggressors, but are also actively
engaged in making this a better
world in which to live.

The NFU Teach-in on
Prison Reform will be held
Oct. 26, not Oct. 20 as
previously announced in The
Daily Nebraskan. The NFU
Teach-in speakers will include

5 p.m. Plans to demonstrate
against Bob Hope will be
discussed in addition to further
war resistance plans.
The Dept. of History and the
Spanish Club are sponsoring a
documentary film on the
Mexican Revolution,
"Memorias de un Mexicano" to
be shown Oct. 28 at 7:30 in
the Nebraska. Union

students, but is open to anyone
who has had some practical
experience in music.
