Band will be playing the Blues
Saturday.
Even though the
Cornhusker football team is
No. 1 in the nation, the band is
still going to be playing the
Blues--"The Birth of ihe
Blues", "St. Louis Rlues",
"Swinging Shepherd Blues",
Basin Street Blues'",
"Rapsody in Blue" and "Bye,
Bye Blues".
This week the band will be
sharing the halftime spotlight
with the marching Jayhawks of
the University of Kansas and
with the 1971 Homecoming

A special Time-Out
Conference report by
Executive Vice President for
Academic Affairs Merk Hobson
was criticized this week by
Patti Kaminski, Time-Out
coordinator.
The report, which was
presented to the Board of
Regents at its Friday meeting
in Omaha, indicates that
students who planned the
conference were not in
adequate contact with the
University staff concerning
speakers and topics at the
conference.
KAMINSKI SAID this
contention is not true.
"Our concern is that the
committee went through a lot
of procedure," she said. "We
were sincerely interested in
opening lines of
communication. The image of
non-communication that the
letter gives is erroneous."
Kaminski said she feels this
year's committee was involved
in more communication with
the University's staff than
committees in past years.
It should be clear that a
great deal of communication
occurred in advance of the
conference, she said. One of
the first contacts the planning
committee made was with
Dean of Student Development
Russell H. Brown last spring
she said.
KAMINSKI SAID she and
other committee members
continued to meet with Brown
and discuss ideas and formats
for the conference. Brown left
the NU staff in mid-September
to take a job as vice-president
for student affairs at the
University of North Dakota.
Hobson's summary states
that no member of the staff
was advised of the specific list
of speakers until Aug. 12.
However, Kaminski contended
that staff members had full
knowledge of the committee's
continuing planning.

Carson, an alumnus of the
University of Nebraska
Lincoln, will present a football
autographed by the
Cornhusker football team to
the queen.
Carson, formerly of
Norfolk, graduated from NU in
1949 and currently is the star of
the "Tonight" show on the
National Broadcasting
Company. His parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Homer Carson of
Columbus, also will attend the
game.

HOBSON'S REPORT says

scheduled the staff members

spectrum of speakers.
"Dr. Harold Grant's role as
keynoter and the participation
of a number of University
faculty and staff members as
respondents with views
differing from the speakers
resulted from this effort," the
report says.
Calling this statement
inaccurate, Kaminski said there
was no kind of confrontation
over the question of Grant.
Kaminski said Wirtz had
met Grant at a meeting in
Denver and was impressed by
him. When Wirtz returned, he
recommended to the
committee that Grant be
included in the conference, she
said.
"WE LOOKED into Dr.
Grant's background and
decided he would be a good
keynote speaker," she said.
"There was no opposition to
Grant and he was not a last
minute addition as the report
implies."

The Homecoming Queen
will be announced Friday night
at the Homecoming Dance
featuring Jim Webb and Crow
in the Coliseum. The queen
will be selected by a student
body vote Wednesday.
Members of Corn Cobs and
Tassels are planning a pep rally
at 6 p.m. Friday on the south
side of the Nebraska Union.
Those attending will march to
Love Library for presentation
of the trophy to the living unit
which contributes the most
money per member to the
"Make Love Number One"
fund drive.
Special arrangements are
being made to permit young
people 18 years of age and
under to see the
Nebraska-Kansas football game
Saturday via closed-circuit
black and white television in
the Coliseum at UNL.
Tickets for the
closed-circuit telecast for
youth will be $1 including tax.
The tickets will go on sale at
12:15 p.m. Saturday only at
the Coliseum.
Homecoming display remains,
announces community donations

proclaims a homecoming spirit

Homecoming chairman, said
Wednesday.
Delta Upsilon fraternity and
Delta Gamma sorority are
attempting to raise money this
week for the Nebraska Human
Resources Foundation and the
Nebraska Easter Seal Society.
"We are going to businesses
in the Lincoln area and asking
for $20 contributions,"
Skinner said. Contributors'
names will be added to the sign
daily, he said.
This way everyone "can see
that they support us and what
we're doing," Skinner added.
Both organizations are now
raising money to lease a lake
on which to build camp
facilities for the physically
handicapped, according to
Skinner.
The Easter Seal Society is
raffling off Memorial Stadium.

The Board of Regents last
Friday directed NU to provide
a closed circuit telecast of the
Kansas game for young people
18 years of age and under.
Dr. Miles Tommeraasen,
director of business and
finance, said the telecast of this 1
game will be restricted to
young people 18 years of age
and under. University station
KUON-TV will provide the
telecast to the Coliseum.
Proceeds from the sale of
tickets will finance the cost of
the special telecast.
The halftime performance
by the K.U. band will feature a
number of modern popular
tunes.
The homecoming activities
are sponsored by the campus
spirit organizations, Corn Cobs
and Tassels, who are also
planning a pep rally at 6 p.m.

Library has been substituted
for traditional homecoming
displays.
A public open house will be
held in Love Library before
and after the Kansas-Nebraska
football game Saturday at the
University of Nebraska
Lincoln. The event is being held in
conjunction with the student
effort to "Make Love Number
1" in connection with the
1971 Homecoming festivities
on the campus.
Staff members in Love
Library decided to hold an
open house to permit
interested persons to tour the
facility between 11 a.m. and
noon Saturday and following
the football game, according to
Carolyn Snyder, assistant
director of libraries for reader
service.
Members of the library staff
have developed several displays
for the open house and will
wear special lapel ribbons
entitled "Make Love Number
1."

Skinner said that $150 had
