    Brauer: Veterans
K II A
not political, military
UNL Students Veterans
Organization President Ken
Brauer says he wants to change
the image students have of his
organization.
He said one of the biggest
problems has been
misinterpretation of the Vets
organization. "Students have a
right wing idea of our club.
Our organization is strictly
non-political and non-military.
"We welcome veterans of all
political views to our
organization," he said. "We
have people here who take
opposing points of view on the
Viet Nam War.
"Our main purpose is to
help our guys, and by banding
together we can accomplish
that better. If a veteran has
been out of school quite a

Recently the UNL
organization has inaugurated a
Student Veteran Loan Fund in
the University Foundation.
Brauer said donations to the
University Foundation can be
earmarked for this fund. He
said the Vets organization
contributed what it could to
the Fund and a former member
has donated $75.
He said one of the student
vets' goals this year is to
increase membership. There are
100 student members of the
organization now. He
estimated the veteran
enrollment here to be up to
1,400.
Brauer said there is one vet
in the Club who was in the
Army 20 years and then there
are those that have been in the
service the minimum time.
"The Club has had female
members but there are none at
the present time", said Brauer,
"but they are always
welcome."
Brauer said a national beer
distributor donated $2,000 to
the Vets' national organization.
The money was passed down
to member clubs in the form of
lower dues. He said the
brewery gave UNL's vets a
discount on beer for their
recent smoker.
