The SUMMER NEBRASKAN is published eight times during the summer sessionfive times in the first and three in the second. Three-hundred high school' students will participate in the 1971 University of Nebraska All-State Fine Arts Program, according to Dr. Jcihn Moran, director of All-State. The program will begin June 13 and end July I. Dr. Moran said 206 students have registered for the music program, 5 1 for speech, 26 for art and 17 for dance, a new program. He explained that the dance program was added this year as a result of interest shown in former years when a dance class was offered as an elective. "This new course," Dr. Moran said, "will provide boys and girls interested in dance an opportunity to experience several different areas of movement-ballet, modern dance and theatre dance." All-State students participating in the art program will receive individual and group instruction in drawing, design, print making and sculpture. Work produced during the session will be exhibited from June 27 through July I in the Kimball Recital Hall. The four major performing ensembles for All-State music students are the band, orchestra and chorus, und the All-State "pops" concert. Each music student will be given five lessons in piano, organ, voice or an instrument. The Department of Speech and Dramatic Art will offer two separate programs for All -State students-a theatre program and a forensic program. Students who elect to take the theatre course will receive instruction and direction in acting, playwriting and stage make-up. Those who participate in the forensic program will concentrate on debate theory and practice. In addition to their regular courses, Dr. Moran said, all art, music and speech students can elect to take a fundamental dance class. Throughout the three-week program the students will present concerts and recitals which will be open to the public. NOTE TO FACULTY MEMBERS: The Temporary Work Study program will continue into the summer, according to Bruce Douthit of the Scholarships and Financial Aids Office.
