Money
dribbles in
Students have sacrificed
their evening meal, contributed
money to a special fund and
held a car wash to raise money
for the Gary Koepke fund.
Now a concentrated effort
to raise $25,000 for the fund
will take place May 5-9 when
students will be dribbling a
basketball across the state. The
dribbling will go on 24 hours a
day for three and a half days.
The marathon will begin at the
Wyoming border, go through
Ogallala. Grand Island and
Lincoln and end in Omaha.
Koepke, 18, of Hoskins, was
forced to leave his studies and
his residence in the Harper,
Schramm, Smith complex at
mid-semester when he learned
that he had Hodgkins disease-a
form of cancer that invades the
lymph glands.
Due to a lack of family
health insurance and the fact
that for the last eight years at
least one of his 10 brothers and
sisters has been enrolled at the
University it would be
impossible for the family to
cover the $50,000 bill without
help.
The dribbling will draw
state-wide attention to

Koerke's plight, according to
Jim Kudma, chairman of the
Omaha Committee of the
Koepke Trans-Nebraska
Basketball Dribble. Money will
be raised by asking businesses
along the way to "buy miles".
Donations can be sent to
418 Harper Hall. Anyone
interested in participating in
the basketball dribble should
contact Mike Woods at Harper
Hall.
