State Sen. Terry Carpenter'
of Scottsbluff has opened a
new front in his battle against
the Nebraska Educational
Television Building, now about
75 per cent completed.
Carpenter Thursday
introduced in the Legislature a
resolution requesting the State
Building Commission to take
"all necessary steps to delay
further construction on, and
purchase of materials for" the
ETV Building until the
Legislature makes a decision if
the building should be used
instead for a new College of
Law.
The resolution noted the
"immediate and pressing need"
for a new building for the
College of Law and that it
would be most economical to
delay further construction on
the building until a final
decision is made on its use.

Discussion on the resolution
was held over .until Friday
afternoon.
The Scottsbluff lawmaker
earlier introduced a resolution
proposing that the building be
used for the College of Law.
Carpenter two years ago was
instrumental in getting
approved a new ETV building
on the East Campus. However,
he has now switched sides
saying ETV is "not as
important as I once thought it
was."
"ETV would be in a
devastating position if we were
barred from occupying the
building in this eleventh hour,"
Jack G. McBride, ETV general
manager, has said. "There is no
money to renovate any other
quarters."
McBride has claimed
Nebraska's ETV network is
seriously threatened if ETV is
not allowed to consolidate ten
buildings into one.
