Winner of about every jazz poll in the world, Rich and his band have played concerts at the Filmore East and the Newport and Monterey Jazz Festivals, in addition to successful tours of England, Japan, Thailand, Okinawa and Hong Kong. In a report on the 1965 Newport Jazz Festival, Dan Morgenstern, writer forDownbeat mazagine, said ""if nothing else of value had happened at Newport, to witness Rich would have made it worthwhile. The audience's standing ovation for Rich seemed a modest tribute." Extension sets meetings for summer readers Again this summer students can take a variety of University courses for credit-without having to attend classes. Registration for the 1971 Summer Reading courses begins May 3. Information on the courses is available now at the University Extentkm Division office, 511 Nebraska Hall, according to Edor Ellingson, coordinator of class programs. An informational meeting for each course will be held April 30. Attendance at the meetings isn't mandatory; they are only to provide students with general ideas about the courses. Instructional meetings will take place May 3-10 for those students who Actually enroll. Professors will make final arrangements with their students at these meetings. The first summer reading program was started in 1967 by Robert L. Hough, professor of English, who offered one course. Since then the program has expanded to 3 1 courses in 9 different fields. One of the attractions of the summer reading courses is that students don't have to attend classes and are allowed a ft. three-month span to complete the reading of six to eight books, Ellingson explained. Students may continue to register for the courses until June 11. amino 30:30 a.m.- Indian Cultural Week-Lehman Brightman; Nebraska Union Noon - NETCHE Luncheon; Union Noon - Indian Cultural "Week films; Union 12:30 p.m.- Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship; Union 1:30 p.m. - Indian Cultural Week-Ruben Snake; Union 2:30 p.m.-Ad Hoc Committee on Campus Disorder; Union 3:30 p. m.-Union Weekend Film Committee; Union 3:30 p.m. -Builders-University Projection; Union 4 p.m. Union Foreign Film Committee; Union 4 p.m. Builders Calendar and Director Committee; Union 4:30 p.m. - Tassels; Union 6 p.m. - Towne Club; Union 6 p.m. Special Services Tutoring; Union 6 p.m. - Mexican Student Association; Union 7 p.m. Unicorns; Union 7:30 p.m. - Math Conselors; Union 7:30 p.m. - Prayer and Praise Group; Union 9:15 p.m. - Kappa Psi; Union 9:30 p.m. - East Union; East Union HELP WANTED Interviews for ASUN Committee Chairmanships start Tuesday, April 27.
