Although they " don't
officially accept the reins of
student government until
Wednesday afternoon, the
newly elected ASUN
executives have already begun
full-time work on the
organization's plans for next
year.
President-elect Steve Fowler
and first vice president Michele
Coyle have been in ASUN'S
office for several days since the
election, running meetings and
conferences that last the day
and often push on past the
Union's closing time.
Coyle explained that they
want to start as soon as
possible. She said the idea is to
get things moving immediately
so progress can be made before
this semester ends and, even
more importantly, so the
Senate is ready to work this
summer and next fall without
having to take time to get
organized.
"ASUN will be active this
summer," Fowler agreed. All
the executives and many
senators will be in Lincoln
during the summer, he added.

both parties were continued.
Rice and Allen, along with
Dale R. Birkhan, 24, who
earlier pleaded guilty, entered

.Newly elected. . : ASUN executives Fowler and Coyle are already meeting
with students and planning for next fall.
Hernandez is in Washington
D.C. this week working with a
Department of Health,
Education, and . Welfare
project.
Fowler's campaign stressed
educational reform as its
number one priority. Toward
that end, either Coyle or
Hernandez will devote the
majority of their time to
changes and improvements in
education.
The area of student
self-determination, which was
already outlined in his
platform, will receive an
emphasis comparable to the
concern with educational

Brunswick plant. However no
mention was made of alleged
plots to bomb the State
Capitol, the Lincoln police
department and the police
helicopter.
The six other defendants
involved who have not waived
preliminary hearings will
appear Wednesday in Lancaster
County Court.

reform, Fowler said.
Coyle said this was partly
the result of the great student
interest in self-determination
they found while visiting living
units during the campaign. She
found that University students
were very concerned about
their education and freedom to
make decisions regardless of
where they lived.
Fowler noted that the new
Senate has already begun work
on a liberalized co-ed visitation
policy which has been written
and will be presented soon.
Another job to be done as
soon as possible is making new
appointments to ASUN,

committee members would be
chosen by interview boards.
The times and places will be
advertised.
Coyle and Fowler interpret
this year's relatively large
election turnout as indicative
of increased student interest
and awareness of ASUN.
Whatever the reason for the
vote, it was good to Fowler's
party and presumably enhances
his chances of implementing
programs. Fowler's University
Coalition won all three
executive positions and 20 of
the 35 Senatorial posts.
