Phi Beta Kappa picks 55
Arts, Sciences scholars
Fifty-five University
scholars have been elected to
membership in Phi Beta Kappa,
national liberal arts and
sciences honorary.
In addition, a faculty
member, Paul Schach,
professor of Germanic
Languages, has been elected an
honorary member of Phi Beta
Kappa.
The new members will be
presented at the annual Phi
Beta Kappa-Sigma Xi joint
annual banquet April 21 in the
Nebraska Union. Guest speaker
will be Herbert Schiller,
research professor of
economics and
communications at the
University of California at San
Diego, according to Stephen
Kellison, assistant professor of
actuarial science and secretary
of Phi Beta Kappa.
Membership in Phi beta
Kappa is limited to the top
ranking scholars in the College
of Arts and Sciences at the
University.

Physiologist
visits zoology
An internationally known
Illinois physiologist will visit
the University this week under
auspices of the department of
zoology's Distinguished
Scientist Lecture Series.
C. Ladd Prosser, professor
in the department of
physiology and biophysics at
the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, has served
on the NASA Space Biology
Advisory Subcommittee since
1967.
He has recently returned
from a scientific expedition to
the Galapagos Island on
Scripps Oceanographic
Institutes research vessel.
Prosser will confer during
the week with students,
graduate students and faculty.
He is the past president of the
American Physiological Society
and the American Society of
Zoologists and the author of
more than 75 science papers.
