committee. The committee was directed to study
state-supported institutions of higher learning and their related
agencies.
This committee, which expires in July, recommended that
the university president be given ultimate decision-making
power while the delegated authority of student and faculty
groups be withdrawn by the board of regents.
In other recommendations, the committee called for
periodic reviews of the administrationof eachdepattment and
the barring of students suspended from other institutions.
INTIMIDATION OF A university community member by
force or threat is a misdemeanor in Washington. In Oklahoma,
non-students who refuse to leave the premises when requested
are quilty of a misdemeanor.
The Virginia Legislature directed that anyone who refuses
to leave the institution's premises on request is guilty of a
misdemeanor.
Before the president of a Virginia university or college can
call in civil authorities to enforce order, the governing body of
the institution must pass a resolution requesting the action.
The 01 R report speculated that the drop in legislation
might be partly because 39 states held legislative sessions in
1 970, compared to 47 in 1 969.
