The $50 lab fee covers horse and equipment rental and in surance, Warren said. The university has no h o r s e s and must rent them from a local stable. "Horses are the number one livestock competition in the U.S.," he said, "and 4,600 Nebraska 4H members own horses." The course will cover managing, feeding, housing, breeding, shoeing and riding, Varren said. He is a nationally approved American Horse Show Association senior registered judge. Near the end of the semester, he said, intra-class equitation, or riding competitions will be held. The equitation training ' includes saddle, blanket, stir rup and rein adjustment, grooming, riding positions, types of gait, basic dressage movements, and some ad vanced riding and jumping. Safety precautions and care of the horse after riding will be included, Warren said. He has judged some of the largest horse shows in the country in the Quarter-horse, Appaloosa, Arabian and Cut ting Horse divisions.
