Huskers bombard Cowboys' defense by ROGER RIFE Associate Sports Editor The Oklahoma State Cowboys have a tradition of giving Nebraska's football team a hard time. But Satur day, that tradition was forgot ten. The Cowboys were supposed to give the Huskers a rough afternoon. But after 60 minutes of offensive football, the Huskers had scored 65 points, more than in any game since 1922 when they defeated South Dakota State 66-0. In last year's game, the Huskers managed to beat the Cowboys 13-3. The 1968 Cowboy Nebraska game was even closer with the Huskers just beating the Cowboys 21-10. "I can't believe that ft really happene d," was the ap propriate comment made by Cowboy split-end Hermann Eben. The senior from Mes quite, Texas was impressed by the Huskers. "All the athletes on the Nebraska squad are outsta nding," Eben said. "They reminded me of Notre Dame against Missouri. PS gill balanced attack and are a completely sound football team. I don't see any other team with the power to beat them." Eben's teammate, quarterback Tony Pounds, had a bad first half against the Blackshirts. "I just wasnt throwing well," said Pounds, the Big Eight's leading passer. "Nebraska has real good pass coverage and the defensive ends kept tremendous pressure on me. Pounds was referring to Husker ends Willie Harper and John Adkins. Harper blocked one of Pounds' passes in the first half and it fell into the hands of Adkins, who ran the ball back for a touchdown. Despite Pounds' poor first half, he should still remain the top passer in the Big Eight. In. the second half, when Husker coach Bob Devaney went to his defensive second and third teams, Pounds co mpleted 16 of 23 tosses for 312 yards. Big Eight This week's schedule W L.
