Murtaugh sets tackle records
With All-American linebacker
candidate Jerry Murtaugh set
ting the pace, Nebraska
defensive worries are becoming
non-existent.
Murtaugh added two Nebras
ka career tackling records to
his war chest last week against
Missouri when he led the
Husker Black Shirts with 11
tackles. Jarrin' Jerry, who last
year set a total tackling record
enroute to All Big Eight and
Sun Bowl honors, now owns all
the career records set by
Nebraska All-American Wayne
Meylan.
Murtaugh's career unassisted
tackle total of 125 and his total
tackle mark of 288 have erased
Meylan from the record book.
And every time Jerry bags an
opposing runner with the help
of a teammate, he will be ad
ding to his already established
record total of 163 assists.

Husker defense and Murtaugh
will get another stiff test this
week at Kansas when they go
after the high-scoring
Jayhawks, who last week upset
Kansas State 21-15.
But stopping offensively-potent
outfits has become a habit
for Murtaugh and his friends
