Davis meeting The Faculty Senate Liason Committee will hold an open meeting Tuesday at 2 p.m. to discuss the case of Michael Davis. Davis, a University of Michigan graduate assistant, was denied a teaching position by the University Board of Re gents after being approved through normal hiring channels. Dr. Jerry Petr, local AAUP vice president, said Thursday.. "AAUP felt that they would be satisfied to let the faculty senate do the report and to be guided by that," Petr said. Dr. G. Robert Ross, vice chancellor, answered Davis' request for further information with the Board "was not con vinced that you possessed the qualifications which it desired," and that their action "was not based upon any specific charge or complaint made by any person or institu tion." Gilbert, chairman of the Liason Com mittee, said the administration asked his committee to compile a report on the Regents' action. Gilbert said, "We felt some group of faculty ought to know all the facts. The Regents have been reluctant to release them. "The faculty can't overrule the Regents,' he added. The liaison committee report will be in the hands of faculty members Oct 6 and will be discussed at their regularly scheduled meeting Oct 13. S.eve Tiwald, ASUN presi dent, asked the Liaison Com mittee to participate in an in formal, open hearing of the case with students Oct 6, when the report has been made public. Petr said he has no plans at this time to attend the hearing. "I don't want to get embroiled in a public discussion if AAUP takes the case," he said. The AAUP executive com mittee will meet Friday to discuss possible actions. "AAUP wants to protect faculty Involvement in the ap pointment process," Petr said. "If the Liaison Committee report satisfies C. Petr Magrath, Dean of Faculties, Dr. Dewey, and Dean George, AAUP would also be satisfied," he said.
