Rozman faces strike penalty by JOHN DVORAK Assistant Sport Editor Stephen Lyle R o z m a n marched to the, Lincoln Draft Board last May 4 with about 50 other University people. He spoke with draft board of ficials, but left the building when ordered to by police. That evening Rozman joined hundreds of other people in the ROTC building. He took part in negotiations with the ad ministration, stayed all night and remained with the 150 or so people through the next morn ing, even when arrest looked imminent. But unlike most of the other people who were students, Rozman is a member of the faculty an assistant pro fessor of political science the only faculty member who participated in the draft board incident and remained in the ROTC pit until the protestors left. For his actions, Rozman was mentioned twice by name in the report of the Spelts Com mission, the Regentappointed group that investigated the May anti-war protest. Rozman was the only NU teacher men tioned by name in the Com mission's 30 page report. The report said: "The Com mission considers improper the action of faculty member Steph en Rozman for his participation in the demonstrations. The Com mission recognizes Mr. Rozman's right to voice his opinions. His actions were highly inappropriate for a teacher." At their September meeting, the Board of Regents ordered the administration to refer Rozman "to the apprroprriate faculty committee" for sanc tion. "By pushing the faculty to take action against me, the Regents are inviting a con frontation," Rozman said Thursday. "Their hard line against activists will only in timidate people." When asked what committee is considering his case, he only shrugged. "I don't know. Nobody has talked to me. I suppose they could do anything they want. I don't have tenure." But Rozman, 30, professed "I believe the faculty has considerable integrity," he said. "They will not act as pawns of anybody, even though that's what they're being asked to do." The chairman of the Political Science Department, as well as the other teachers in it, have not changed their attitudes and feelings toward him. Nor has his relationship with students Jump to page 8 GO BIG RED M owidend YOU SAVE MORE!! o LOWEST PRICES ON CIGARETTES o ICE CUBES ALWAYS READY-50' BAG o NO BETTER GAS SOLD . . .
