An ann-water-pollution cam'
paign is promoted in an unusual
way when folksinger Pete
"Seeger headlines a week of
television viewing on the
nebrasfca Educational Television
Network.
Pete Seeger and his group, the
Hudson River Sloop Singers,
give a performance aboard the
' Clearwater, ' a replica of an
1800 New York Hudson River
boat. The performance
featured in color on "Sounds of
Summer" Friday, June 26 at
p.m. The purpose of the musical
voyage along the Hudson Is to
draw attention to the anti-pollu
tion crusade of Seeger and his
group.
In an editorial, the Boston
Hearld Traveler said of the
venture "For Pete Seeger it is
another chapter in his con
tinuous, unstinting service to
mankind. For most of his life he
has listened, labored and taught
through travels, concerts and
workshops from the darkest
urban ghettoes to wide-open
countrysides. He has given pro
minent voice through music to
those concerns common to all
men,"
Florence, Italy Renowned
for its beauty and art Is the
subject Tuesday, June 23 at 8
p.m. when "NET Festival" asks
the question, "Why Save
Florence?"
Four years ago a devastating
flood struck the city, flooding
museums, cathedrals, and
galleries ruining thousands of
priceless art treasures. The
program points to the com
mercial opportunism and lack of
concern prevalent among the
Florentines. Recovery has been
impeded by bureaucracy, trafifc
and lack of money.
"NET Festival" records the
astonishing response of private
citizens throughout the world
who donated millions and
students who came from
everywhere to help restore
Florence and its rich heritage.
Domestic politics and pro.
blems of America are discussed
Wednesday, June 24 at 10:30

concerns problems and pro
grams of HEW. He is in
terviewed by program host
Edwin Newman. The program is
broadcast in color.

Deans of American folk music, Pete Seeger and
Oscar Brand cavort musically through the evolu

day on Channel 12. The program takes the mood
of a sing-along when student participants join in
on several numbers the artists use as illustration.
Seeger will also appear on "Sounds of Summer"
at 8:00 p.m. Friday.
Malkine, joins friends of the folk
music fraternity by visiting five
Pennsylvania campuses on the
series, !onia Malkine on Cam
pus," Tuesday, June 23 at 6:30
p.m.
Soma Malkine s melodic voice
has left a trail of vibrations
from continental youth hostels
to New York City. A French
resistance fighter before she
was out of her teens, Miss
Malkine now takes on the lively
atmosphere of college campus
tours delivering in concert a
quality of sentiment that is not
foreign to this year's students.
Scots, ballad singer, Frank
Fletcher, appears with Miss
Malkine on this program which
was recorded at Millersville
State College, Pennsylvania.
Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day
held July 4, 1939 when 60,000
fans gathered to pay tribute to
the ailing "Iron Man of
Baseball" will be re-created
on "You Are There" Wednes
day, June 24 at 6:30 p.m.
"Walter Cronkite and a CBS
camera crew re-create the
memorable day that took place
in Yankee Stadium in New York
City on the program titled "Lou
Gehrig's Greatest Day " For 14
years Gehrig was the hard
slugging first baseman of the
world champion New York
Yankees and an idol of the
baseball world. Doomed by an
incurable disease that steadily
wasted away his muscles,
Gehrig was honored as a fine
human being as well as a super-
athlete.
