    Committee
suggests
changes
The , Academic Planning
Committee, as requested by the
Faculty Senate meeting May
12, has been considering sug
gestions for reforming the
- University.
'An information statement on
the Committee's May 13 open
hearings was adopted without
opposition at the Faculty
Senate meeting Thursday.
One of the recommendations
of the Committee is the adop
tion, in each department, of a
university-wide course number
at the 100 level for variable
credit. It could be used in
several ways to overcome the
question of inflexibility. It
could be used for many
purposes.
Another recommendation
was that communication
between the faculty of the
various departments and the
. students be greatly increased.
Several specific proposals were
offered.
Another recommendation Is
that at either weekly or some
other periodic interval, a two
hour period in late afternoon
without formal class com
mitments be created sa that
special speakers and programs
could be featured.
In conclusion, the Committee
said that a combined Faculty
Senate-ASUN examination "of
the student-faculty interface
with respect to University
governance"' should be un
dertaken. A student-faculty represen
tative senate, joint ASUN and
Faculty Senate committees, or
changes in the composition of
the present Faculty Senate
would be desirable, the com
mittee suggested.
