V I .5 Oh, hi Uncle Royl r 1 . Around Town: Citizen deals low blow to Blotchf elder support Omaha Leroy Liquidator, using Nebraska's controversial self-defense act as a defense, pleaded innocent today of wounding gubernatorial can didate Cliffnut Blotchfelder. Blotchfelder was shot in the anus last month while cam paigning for governor in South Omaha. However, the state senator, who is a staunch supporter of the self-defense law, appeared almost fully recovered from his painful wounds as he crouched in the Dougla3 County Courthouse for Liquidator's trial. Liquidator, a meatpacker, said that he shot Blotchfelder with a .22 rifle because he took the state senator to be a thief breaking into his house. He told the court that before the shooting he had had trouble with thief's and vandals and so he placed several "Beware trespassers will be shot" signs around his yard. The District Attorney asked Liquidator about the rifle he used to wound Blotchfelder. The meatpacker replied he only used it to shoot pests and public nuisances. "If I had known it was Senator Blotchfelder I would have never shot," Liquidator remarked. "I idolize Blotch. He's the one responsible for passing laws, like the self defense act, which help people like myself protect their property." Blotchfelder then took the stand and related tJiis story to the packed courtroom: "I was walking along the street campaigning, when I saw this house (Liquidator's) with one of my campaign posters in the yard. I figured these people are supporting me and so it would be nice if I paid them a visit. "As I got closer to the house I also saw those damn "no trespassing signs" in the yard. But I figured a guy who would put up signs like those can't be all bad. So I walk up to the house and look in the window and before I know it this guy shoots me in the behind." We know that you send it to Washington. We know you would like nothing better than to find something subversive in the paper. Do you microfilm a copy of every newspaper issue of every newspaper that is mailed? What if every post office in the United States microfilms a copy of every issue of every newspaper? How much money do you suppose that costs? if ! PAGE 8 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN In mm REMEMBER MONDAY, MAY 4, 1970 in v
