Grqd students form GSA Most undergraduates have the misconception that graduate students are docile closet cases, said John Stone, chairman of the newly-formed Graduate Student Association, (GSA). Graduate students have perhaps learned to live with the system, he explained, "but we as grad students do have com mon problems and that is why we are banding together." At their second meeting Wednesday night, the group named itself and decided to present a petition for recogni tion to the Graduate Council, the policy-making body for University graduate programs. Graduate Council is composed of 15 faculty members and five administrators. Stone pointed out the im portance of explaining to the Graduate Council the manner in which GSA will represent all of the University's more than 230C graduate students. " Students in each graduate department will elect delegates to GSA, he explained. There are about 66 graduate departments. Stone said that if GSA is recognized as an advisory group to the Graduate Council, the organization will in vestigate tax benefits and liabilities for graduate stipends and the possibility of more library privileges relative to graduate students. "We'd also like to look into the possibility of increasing the maximum summer class load for teaching assistants and we'd like to look into the elimination of tuition fees for dissertation hours."
