by MICK MORIARTY
Nebraskan Staff Writer
In a parting shot at the
University of Nebraska, Ivan
Volgyes, assistant professor of
political science, aatd that the
University must change or
college degrees will become
worthless.
Before leaving on ?. one year
sabbatical, Volgyes spoke at a
rap session Wednesday in the
Nebraska Union.
Volgyes said that in five
years there will be two and
one-half million graduates
entering the labor market and
there will only be 400,000 jobs
available.
"There simply will not be
any jobs for graduates and
don't be surprised if you end up
working in a gas station"
Volgyes told about 100 students

'There's not a goddamn
thing you' can do with a
bachelors degree," Volgyes
said. "If you go to work for
business, you end up taking
special training courses
anyway," he said.
Volgyes said that the
universities must meet the
needs of the people. ''They are
not doing this now but I believe
that they can if we only con
vince the taxpayers that the
university ca'h help them," be
saaid.
Volgyes emphasized that
change can come from within
the system, although he was

doubtful that violent change
could be avoided in America,
"where violence is so central to
our system."
He warned students, "Don't
play with revolution. Once you
have taken the ultimate
course, no longer can change
come non-violently."
Volgyes told students to
remember that the end result
of a revolution would be
totalitarianism. But he also
said that if people don't work
for change now, then
totalitarianism would come
another way.
