Neiv University: IK Yippies' goal: to demolish ASUN "Yippie! unchallenged leaders of swine breeding" boasts the campaign posters of the Youth International Party (YIP), one of the parties in the April 22 ASUN elections. Alan Siporin, Yippie presidencial candidate, said at a recent Hyde Park that one of the Yippies campaign goals is to demolish ASUN. . Siporin heads a ticket of Diane Wanek, for first vice president, and James Riordan for second vice-president. Siporin also said at Hyde Park that the Yippies would legalize marijuana, put beer in all the fraternities and offer joints to those who wanted to turn-on. Dan Ladely, Yippie chairman, said Tuesday he could make no comment on the party's platform due to the mysterious absence of Siporin. Ladely claims that Siporin has been kidnapped by some opposing party. Besides the interesting campaign goals, the Yippies will also have interesting names on the election ballots. The Yippies have adopted such ballot names as Mr. Natural, Captain Piss-Gum, Frisco Freak, Old Milt, and Mescaline Mike. The Yippies have 18 ASUN senatorial candidates on their ticket. These include: Arts & Sciences candidates, Bart Becker, Jim Gray, Mark Dalton, Gary Herse (Mr. Natural), John Hughes (Cap tain Piss-Gum), William Lockwood (Frisco Freak), James Traudt (Old Milt) and Don Wanek. Business candidate, F. Dennis French. Engineering & Architecture candidates, James Jeys, Rod Lamberson and Mike WisnieskL Professional and Graduate candidate, Brian Keefe. Teachers candidates, George Bryan, Sim Guerwitz, Marty Todd, Don Tremain and Michael Wenig (Mescaline Mike). JAKE End impersonal learning The New University, one of four parties in the April 22 ASUN elections, Is recom mending a student on the Board of Regents, an end to mass classes and.lmpersonality in all areas of learning and the right of students to entertain guests of their choice in on campus housing. Randy Prier, a current member of both the ASUN Senate and the Council on Stu dent Life (CSL), is the New University's presidential can didate. Also on Prier's ticket are Barry Pilger, for first vice president and Bill Smitherman, for second vice president. The first goal of a student government must be to seek a free atmosphere in which students may encounter new experiences, according to the Coalition wants "The ASUN Senate can do longer pretend 10 be a legislative body," according to the University Coalition's plat form. If elected in the April 22 ASUN elections, University Coalition candidates promise to have ASUN promoting educa tional reform, providing services to students and pro tecting students legal rights. The University Coalition Is headed by presidential can didate Steve Tiwald and serond v i ce-presidential candidate Mark Theisen. The party Is supporting Dave Bingham, a former ASUN senator, as a write-in candidate for first vice president. In order to establish more equitable student participation in University affairs, the party is recommending an all university senate be establish ed and that ASUN form the issues for University decision making bodies, such as CSL. The New University is also proposing that a student con trolled interest group run the Nebraska Union as well as programming and services to students. Other services pro posed by the party include a student gas station, a child day care center, a complete legal aid program and snack service to living units. Other proposals of the New University include: Expansion of the concept of Centennial College com dent, according to the party's platform. The platform also states that the University Coalition will research the possible creation of student co-operatives sucn as a bread and milk store, a book store, a gas station, and a day care center. An additional service sug gested by the Coalition is the creation of an ombudsman to aid individual students if thev encounter administrative dif ficulties. The University Coalition proposes that the goal of the University should be to free students by teaching them to do their own learning.
