Official justifies U.S. in Latin Americans do not fully understand the population pro blems of Latin America, ac cording to a state department official who visited Lincoln Wednesday. A 40-year veteran of the foreign service, Clare Tim berlake has worked for the State Department in all parts of the world. The ambassador justified the American intervention in the Dominican Republic several years ago by saying, "We were invited into the Dominican Republic by the Organization of American States because of a disturbance that seriously ef fected American citizens there." In confusion Senate studies discipline In a session characterized by confusion, the ASUN Senate Wednesday created a com mission to study the student disciplinary system. One of the goals of the com mission will be to eliminate double punishment for a single offense. Currently, a student may be punished by both University and civil authorities for the same violation. There was much confusion in the Senate over procedures used in considering the election report. Finally the Senate approved part of the Electoral Com mission's report. The rest of the report, dealing with cam paign expenditures and regu'ations, was not approved because of Senate opposition. Filing for the April 22 ASUN elections will begin March 13. Students will be voting for ASUN executives senators and advisory board members in the elections.
