Draft rally A symbolic destruction of guns will highlight the anti draft rally Friday, according to Mike Richardson, rally coordinator. The rally, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday north of Love Library, will be held in the Nebraska Union Ballroom in case of bad weather, he said. The rally is sponsored by the Vietnam Moratorium Com mittee. Other anti-draft activities planned by the Moratorium committee include the showing of anti-draft films in the Union lobby throughout the day Thursday and Friday and han ding out anti-draft literature at the state basketball tournament Thursday and Friday. "This rally is just the begin ning of the general movement against supression of man's true freedoms," Richardson said. "Such actions of dissent will continue until the draft is completely abolished." Reflecting a heritage of love. As old as time. As young as the dawn. They describe it as the "essence of strife and revolu tion instead of peace." "In the Middle Ages the broken cross within a circle was an anti-christian symbol worn by people who were op posed to Christianity," said Mrs. Earl Luff, spokesman for the club. The group received their in formation from the Nebraska Republican Women's Club and the Sandusky Courier, she said. "We believe that youth has been misinformed about the meaning of the symbol," Mrs. Luff said. "We are opposed to the symbol simply because it has nothing at all to do with peace. The group's statement has caused so much commotion that the club intends to research the youth movement, Mrs. Luff said. The peace symbol has meant different things throughout the ages. To the Indians, it was a combination of the two symbols for man and fire and actually meant death by fire. If worn with the fork up, the symbol meant bilateral disarmament and when worn with the fork down, it sym bolized unilateral disarma ment. Mrs. Luff admitted that the Club was ignorant of this past history of the peace symbol. "The true meaning of the peace symbol should be ex posed because people should see both sides of the peace movement," Mrs. Luff stress ed. "We're not against peace," she added, "we just don't want Peace at Any Price."
