In a busy session Wed
nesday the ASUN Senate took
preliminary steps toward the
creation next semester of a
pilot day care center for the
children of University students.
A subcommittee of the
Human Rights Committee was
established to investigate the
idea of a day care center. The
Human Rights Committee will
also survey students to
determine the need for a day
care center.
The resolution on the day
care center claims that over
one-fifth of NU students are
married and that many have
started families.
The ASUN Senate Wednesday
also passed a resolution in
structing the Council on Stu
dent Life to evaluate the right
of the Housing Office to tell
students to leave their off
campus residence on the
grounds of racial discrimina
tion by the landlord.
At the Wednesday afternoon
meeting ASUN Electoral Com
m i s s i o n e r Glenn Nees
presented the proposed rules
and regulations for the ASUN
spring elections.
However, consideration of the
Electoral Commission's report
was postponed for a week
because many senators ob
jected to certain election
rules.
Sen. Nancy Ryan said the
maximum expenditures of $50
per senatorial candidate might
prevent minority students from
running for election.
Sen. Dan Lawler said, "Last
year I didn't find the ASUN
elections exciting or fulfilling.
He thus objected to certain
election rules that prohibited
