'New Mobe9 by JAN PARKS Nebraikan StaH Writer Nearly 4,000 representatives, including Nebraska students, launched an new attack on racism and U.S. involvement in Vietnam at the Student Mobilization Committee Con ference ("New Mobe") last weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. It was in the largest assembly of radicals in the history of the nation," ac cording to freshman Bill Tiwald, who attended the con ference with five other NU students. Racism was cited as one of the foremost causes of American involvement in the war, he said. A policy paper distributed at the conference stated: "This SMC Convention can mark a turning point in the fight for peace and can start to build a black, brown and white move ment that will have the power WHAT O BLACKS AND GREEKS AND FOREIGN STUDENTS AND INDEPENDENTS AND DR. In this war, black youth die in disproportionate numbers in Vietnam. Racism in the military is admitted even by the Pentagon, but black GI's are still persecuted," the paper continues. Many organizations sent representatives to the con ference, Tiwald said. "Everything from Black Panthers, to Weathermen, to Students for a Democratic Society were there," he said. Groups supporting women's liberation, equal rights for homosexuals and religious op position to the war were among the many interest groups at the conference, he said. "The conference was trying to incorporate all radical elements into a unified move ment against the war in Viet ll I attacks old topics nam," according to Patti Kaminski, another NU freshman who attended the conference. Miss Kaminski said the 4,000 participants met in a gym nasium to plan the anti-war, anti-draft offensive scheduled for April 13-18.
