FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1969 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN ?AGE 3 OSU talent is deceiving What th world needs Is mere Oklahoma State University football teams. They have the ability to outplay most teams, but at the same time, remain obscure enough not to war ran such consideration. The easiest way t o evaluate the Cowboys' talent is to go back one week to the Missouri game. OSU showed it could move the ball. So much so, in fact, that they accounted for 338 yards total offense In dropping a 31 21 decision. Senior quarterback Bob Curtburth is responsible for the Pokes' offensive threat. He passed for 191 yards against the nationally-ranked Tigers. Ills completion percentage is not remarkable (42-125), but his yardage total is (554). Flanker Hermann Eben and tailback Bobby Cole are Cutburth's primary targets. Eben has snagged 11 passes for 210 yards, and Cole has grabbed five tosses for 111 yards. Fullback Bub Deerinwater is the top Cowboy rushing threat He's netted 178 yards on 40 carries for a 4.4 yard r carry average. Cutburth as made 53 rushing trips for 122 yards. Oklahoma State's statistics are not as impressive as Nebraska's simply because the Cowboys have played one less game in a 2-2 season. OSU, after dropping its opener to Arkansas, upset Houston and tripped Texas Tech before bowing to Mizzou. John Little LOOK WHO'S COMIN' TO PERSHING! He's collected 72 tackles in four games, 50 of which have been unassisted. All Big 8 defensive tackle John Little leads the front four. He has a fumble recovery and a pass in terception to his credit besides 50 tackles (40 unassisted). Benny Goodwin is the leading Poke defensive back, having collected 36 tackles. John Gates, Tom Carraway and Larry Kirkland also have been effective defensive backs. Carraway has in tercepted four passes, and Gates has swiped two. Other Cowboy offensive standouts Include tight end Tom Dearinger, tailback Wayne Hallmark and tackle John Ward, who also plays defensive tackle. Hallmark is the club's third leading rusher and fifth leading receiver. Dearingei has had somewhat of a slow start in catching only nine passes for 66 yards. iiiiiimwiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiimiiiiM Predictions by Randy York Sports Editor The middle part of most activities is usually the least exciting. Not so, however, in the Big Eight Conference football race. At mid-season, things are just starting. For instance, only three league teams are unbeaten after two conference games. Two of the three unbeatens, Oklahoma and Kansas State, collide at Manhattan Satur day. This corner hit on each of its four Big 8 picks last week, hiking its seasonal average to .806 (25 right, six wrong). The weekend forecast: Nebraska 28, Oklahoma State 10 Many feel the score will be much closer, but if Jerry Tagge continues to improve, the Huskers may stage a pass in, not a pass out (like last week against Bub Deerinwater (EUtamftriis Hems Offend Parsonals Fer nl: 'M V.W.
