The subjects are watched constantly by Red Cross volunteers utilizing a net of walkie-talkies. These same people also watch for spec tator emergencies of all kinds during the games. Dr. Rose plans to study two more subjects at the Kansas game and two others later in the season. "I FEEL," he said, "that there is a definite connection between emotional in volvement and excitement in spectator sports and the number of heart attacks that take place at sporting events." The heart attack problem Is not the only one being studied by Dr. Rose and his fellow researchers. In fact, the Health Center team is study ing several different aspects of the affects of stress on the human organism. Extensive research Is being done into the variance of metabolic rates in students and the causes of a recent wave of infections mononucleosis among other subjects. There seems to be a cor relation between the Increas ed stress of college life and certain ailments, Dr. Rose said. "The main purpose of this research program," Dr. Rose continued, "is to attempt to understand what goes on in the mind and body of a young adult, and to see what causes many diseases to occur at an incrasing rate, particularly heart disease.
