(Friday Afternoon Column)
BY ED ICENOGLE
There are reports of erumbline at r.ramhiim
A number of students there were kicked out of school
for some demonstrations protesting the overemphasis of
football to the exclusion of intellectual endeavors.
And so the staffs of the University of Nebraska's
major publications (Daily Nebraskan and Cornhustler), In
a never-ending battle to bring athletics back to the stu
dents and away from the ogres of Big Time College Foot
ball, have proposed an amazing grid clash.
This spectacle of the football world will pit the Ne
braskans and the Cornhustlers in the newly-created Pub
lications Bowl.
TIT'
And "pit" is exactly the right word: rumor has it that
the Cornhustlers have no Right Guard, a deficiency that
is said to leave them defenseless.
The game, scheduled for 4 p.m. at Pioneer's Park
at the foot of the Indian statues has brought up some ser
ious and thought-provoking questions.
The main question being, how are 22 grid mongers go
ing to play on the foot of that Indian?
For those unconcerned with the athletic ramparts of
this football structure, consider the social Implications of
such a game.
First, it will show the Big Redders that there is more
than one good football team on campus.
NOT DROPOUTS!
And then, this is proof positive that members of both
staffs are no longer complete social dropouts, because
they will have something to do on this Friday afternoon.
Now, for you non-publications minded readers, there
is yet hope, also. Friday afternoon Column is now accept
ing membership applications in the Apathetic Students
Society's Educational Survey (ASSES).
To join you need to have not voted in Monday's Viet
nam war referendum. (That excludes only 952 of you.)
APATHETIC LEADER
The only other requirement for joining ASSES is to
send a picture of your favorite Apathetic leader, like Hu
bert Humphrey or almost any Student Senator.
