First Snow Brings Ducks For Opener By Bob Flasnick Sports Editor The snow that fell on Lincoln Thursday was an appropriate reminder that the basketball season has arrived at the Cornhusker campus with Nebraska host ing the 1966-67 season open er tonight against Oregon University Ducks at 7:35 in the Coliseum. Ilusker coach Joe Cipri ano, the Big Eight Coacn of the Year last season, will have a veteran studded team back this season from last year's Ne braska squad which posted 20-5 overall record and was runner-up to Kansas in the Big Eight Conference. "We're always a little nervous with the opener," "but we've been playing against ourselves for the past weeks and we're anx ious to go up against some outside competition." Cipriano is expected to start the top five returning scorers from the 1965-66 squad in Tom Baack (386), Nate Branch (338), Stuart Lantz (306), Willie Camp bell (167) and Jim Damra (69). Baack, Branch, Lantz and Campbell were start ers last year. Missing this year will be Grant Simmons whose leadership and scoring were influential in Nebras ka's success last season. Simmons, a guard, scored 380 points in his final year at Nebraska and was an All Big Eight and district 5 All-American selection. Cipriano said that as things stand now, Damm and Ron Gymnasts Open Today At Chicago Meet NEBRASKA Name Hometown Armstrong, Allen Lincoln Beran, Richard Omaha Brewer.
