Postponed Because of the threat of rain and cold weather, the Nebraska Kansas State freshmen football game, originally scheduled tor this afternoon in Memorial Sta dium has been postponed until Monday at 2:30 p.m. Kansas State and Nebras ka school officials con ferred Thursday night and decided not to take the chance of possible damage to the Memorial Stadium turf which could hamper play in the varsity game Saturday between the Huskers and Kansas State. The postponement deci sion was reached and an nounced jointly by Husker Athletic Director Tippy Dye and Kansas State Ath letic Director H. B. Bebe Lee who was in Lincoln at the time of the decision. Today's scheduled con test would have been the season opener for Nebras ka while the Kansas State frosh already have one game rnder their belt, beat ing the Oklahoma Univer sity freshmen 17-7. The winless Kansas State Wildcats are the Home coining adversaries that must step In Nebraska's path just as the "Big Red" appear to be gaining mo mentum. The Wildcats have dropped four games to Army, New Mexico, Colo rado, and Missouri by a total of 72 points. They have little to put up against Nebraska other than the Big Eight's leading ground gainer Cornelius D a v i e s who has rushed for a 6.1 yard average this season. If on Saturday, Davis can come anywhere near keep ing up the pace he has set so far, the Kansas State fullback gets our prema ture vote for the Big Eight Back of the Week. The K-State flash will be running into a Nebraska defense which ranks sec ond in the nation in rush ing yardage allowed to op ponents. In games to date, the '"Black Shirts" have been nudged for 147 rushing yards, or 38.5 yards a game which is about two yards more than has been allowed by Southern Mississippi. Nebraska could show the anticipated record crowd Saturday that it has in Harry Wilson and Ben Gre gory possibly the best one two punch in the back field since Coach Bob De vaney came to Nebraska. The running of Gregory and Wilson demoralized Wisconsin for 151 yards last Meek and that effort came just as Wilson ap pears to be rounding into shape. As for Gregory, it was his first starting as signment on offense after seeing mainly defensive duty in Nebraska's first three games. Husker signal caller Bob Churchich will take t h e field Saturday as the holder of five Nebraska passing records. They are: most pass completions in one game (16); most pass com pletions for one season (62) ; most career passing yard age (2,149 yards); most career pass completions (150); and most career touchdown passes (15). Churchich is leading the Big Eight in passing yard age this year with 454 yards in four games. Nebraska has another Big Eight leader in safety Larry Wachholtz. The diminutive extra point and field goal kicker leads the league in scoring with 25 points and in punt returns with a 12.6 yard average. Two bowl representatives will be in town Saturday and might add incentive for a good showing on, Nebras ka's part in the still young season. Sugar Bowl repre sentatives Dr. Fred Wolfe and Theo Maumus, both of New Orleans, will watch the Homecoming game. Cornhusker.
