The Kansas State team already has one game un der their belt, beating the Oklahoma frosh Monday, 17-7. "We don't know anything about K-State," said Husk er freshmen coch John Mil ton Tuesday, pointing out that Nebraska doesn't scout the freshmen oppon ents on the Husker sched ule. ' "But they must be pret ty good if they can beat Oklahoma." said Milton "you would think Oklaho ma would be able to out recruit Kansas State." 'Unknown Quantity' Milton said it would be pretty hard to compare the potential of this year's Ne braska freshmen team with those of the past. "They all start out as an unknown quantity," he said. "Our defense looks better than our offense, but it takes longer to teach a KSU Freshmen Import Canadian Johnny M a n e 1, Kansas State's freshman quarter back, may have taken some of the fans at the Wildcats' frosh game Monday back a decade or two in football history. After K-State scored its first touchdown in the sec ond quarter, Manel lined up as the the snap-receiving back in a shotgun formation. Oklahoma prepared to de fend against the two-point conversion try. Wildcat cen ter Ron Stevens spiraled the ball back to Manel. Now a flashback into his tory. Manel took one quick step and dropped the ball. His right leg swung forward and the ball went end over end high over the crossbar, split ting the uprights. A perfect droDkick. The 2,500 K-State parti sans were taken by surprise hut auicklv roared their ap proval. And continued to do so all day as' the Wildcat frosh defeated Oklahoma, 17-7, for K-State's first freshman victory since 1957. Milton called Omaha's 197-pound halfback Joe Or duna a "good back" and said that Gale Williams, a 236-pound tackle from Meadow Grove, Neb., and Keith Hayward, a 204-pound guard from Bay City, Mi chigan, had been looking good. The end tandem of Paul Topliff, 6-feet-2. 199 pounds from Lincoln, and Ed Lar son, 6-feet. 199 pounds from Sioux City, Iowa, were also credited with turning in good performances so far in practice. Milton said it would take a game or two to' de cide what kind of team the freshmen would develop in to, adding that "the var sity has been handling us pretty good in practice."
